Maximum DUI Enforcement in Effect This Cinco de Mayo Weekend!

If you’re planning on celebrating Cinco de Mayo and you plan to indulge with a margarita or tequila—don’t get behind the wheel!

The Avoid the 18 DUI Task Force will be out across Tulare and Kings Counties.

Construction on Highway 99 This Weekend!!!

CalTrans has scheduled lane closures on northbound State Route 99, in Tulare County this weekend.

Northbound State Route 99 will be down to one lane from Elk Bayou to Avenue 200 on Saturday, March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

This closure will also include the northbound State Route 99 off-ramp to Avenue 200 on both days of operation.

Closures may continue for longer periods of time each day if necessary, due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur during maintenance.  These scheduled closures will occur, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect delays and are encouraged to take an alternate route if possible.  California Highway Patrol officers will be on site, helping with traffic control.

Don't forget: “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

State Needs Your Input on High Speed Rail

State Needs Your Input on High Speed Rail

Caltrans, which manages two of the nation’s busiest passenger rail lines, is asking its rapidly growing passenger base what they think about rail systems in the Golden State.

The department will host five public open houses and a statewide webinar this month to solicit input on the draft California State Rail Plan (CSRP), which will lay out a vision for freight, passenger and high-speed rail in the state. The draft plan is available here and comments can be submitted through March 11.

“Each year, nearly six million passengers ride the trains in California,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty.

Input Needed on Proposed Amendment to Measure R

Input Needed on Proposed Amendment to Measure R

Tulare County Association of Governments staff will present to city councils in February and March to generate public input on a proposed amendment to Measure R, the sales tax for roads, bikes and buses.

The Clean Air category (transit, pedestrian paths, bikeways) may be amended because projections indicate that additional revenue may be available. Each city and the County has had the opportunity to request funding for additional projects.

“Deciding how to spend this projected additional funding requires an amendment to the plan that voters approved,” explained Ted Smalley, executive director of TCAG. “So, input from the residents of Tulare County is required in order to change it.”

Public meetings will be held:

• Tuesday, Feb. 12, 5:30 p.m., Porterville City Council meeting, Porterville City Hall, 291 N. Main St.

• Tuesday, Feb. 26, 5:30 p.m., Dinuba City Council meeting, Dinuba City Hall, 405 E.

DUI Crackdown Begins This Week in Tulare/Kings Counties

The "Avoid the 18" Tulare/Kings Counties DUI Taskforce will begin its crackdown on Drunk Drivers and those driving without a license this week.

Checkpoints, Multi Agency DUI Task Force deployments and DUI saturation patrols will be scheduled around the two counties during the Winter Holiday Anti-DUI Campaign December 14 through January 1, 2013.

The Avoid the 18 DUI Task Force is composed of 18 local law enforcement agencies throughout Tulare/Kings Counties which have joined together to combat drunk driving in the cities and unincorporated areas.

The program is called the Avoid DUI Campaign because motorists can "avoid" being arrested by planning for safe, sober rides before the celebration and never drinking and driving.
