Porterville Courthouse Expands Services

Starting January 21, the South County Justice Center in Porterville will begin accepting filings for Domestic Violence restraining orders. Only those filings that do not involve minor children will be processed and heard in Porterville.

All other filings involving minor children will continue to be filed and heard in the Visalia Division.

Due to budget constraints, the South County Justice Center does not have the resources necessary to staff a Family Court Services office to mediate cases involving minor children as required under the Family Code. The court hopes to expand services to include custody and visitation matters in the future.

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child in 2014

Tulare County Foster Care Licensing staff members are now offering personal orientations for prospective foster parents, in addition to the regularly scheduled meetings.

Tulare County Foster Care Licensing holds a group orientation at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month at its 26500 S. Mooney Blvd. office.

The individual orientation meetings are new and were developed in order to be more accessible to prospective foster parents, explained Anita Ortiz, of Tulare County Foster Care Licensing.

“We have such a need for foster parents that we decided to have staff available throughout our normal office hours in order to be more accommodating and, hopefully, encourage more people to go through the orientation and training,” Ortiz explained.
